The workshop will explore the emerging capabilities and limitations of super artificial intelligence (SI) and autonomous decision-making systems, particularly their potential applications within science and technology (S&T) research, planning, and management. Discussions will examine how increasingly autonomous SI systems can independently pursue objectives, use tools, gather and synthesize evidence, coordinate multiple agents, and initiate actions with varying degrees of human oversight. The workshop will consider which S&T activities and decisions may be appropriate for greater autonomy, as well as the technical, operational, and governance considerations associated with deploying these capabilities.
