Elizabeth Q. Hutchison is Professor of Latin American History. As a UNM Representative to the Action Collaborative, she develops programs to enhance support to faculty and staff who experience bullying, discrimination, and sexual harassment. In 2016, she cofounded Faculty for a Sexual Assault- Free Environment at the University of New Mexico (Faculty SAFE UNM), an ad hoc faculty organization that promotes changes in policy, strengthens support and advocacy, and advances research on campus sexual violence at UNM. Hutchison serves as a UNM's primary representative, and participates in the Remediation Working Group of the Action Collaborative. In 2020, Hutchison contributed a chapter to the newest edition of The Academics’ Handbook, “Making Campus Safer: Fighting Sexual Violence and Sexual Harassment in Academia” (https://facultysafeunm.files.wordpress.com/2021/01/hutchison-making-campus-safer-2020-duke.pdf), and in 2021 co-authored “Reporting is Not Supporting: Why the Principle of Mandatory Supporting, not Mandatory Reporting, Must Guide Sexual Misconduct Policies in Higher Education,” Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences 118: 52 (December 2021) https://doi.org/10.1073/pnas.2116515118.
