Short Bio
Dr. Cerulli obtained a Bachelor of Arts in humanistic studies from St. Mary's College in Notre Dame, Indiana, and later earned a juris doctor from the University of Buffalo. She also holds a master’s and a PhD from the Nelson A. Rockefeller College of Public Affairs and Policy at SUNY at Albany. An advocate for human rights and the wellbeing of marginalized people. Dr. Cerulli has more than four decades of experience working with victims of violence in counselor, attorney, and researcher roles. Her legal career began in 1990 as a law clerk with the Office of the Attorney General in Albany, NY. The following year, she was the coordinator of Haven House Legal Clinic. From there, she spent three years as assistant district attorney with the Monroe County Office of the District Attorney and then served for a year as a legislative analyst with the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence during graduate school. She joined the University of Rochester Medical Center in 2000 and has since held several teaching and leadership roles. She earned the Faculty Mentoring Award in 2016 and the Faculty Diversity Award in 2017. Dr. Cerulli teaches several courses on violence prevention, leads diverse research projects covering criminal justice and public health, and mentors undergraduate, doctorate, post-doctorate, and junior faculty members. She has published over 120 peer-reviewed articles in addition to book chapters, law review articles, and published abstracts. She hosts a podcast, Promoting Resiliency, and she recently completed a two-year Robert Wood Johnson Healthy Policy Fellowship working on issues close to her heart.
