Short Bio
Dr. Karen R. Stubaus is currently an Affiliated Researcher at the National Center for the Study of Collective Bargaining in Higher Education and the Professions at Hunter College in New York City. She is Vice President for Academic Affairs Emerita at Rutgers University in New Jersey, where in a career spanning over 35 years she was responsible for a broad array of matters including university faculty and academic labor relations, sexual harassment prevention and culture change, increasing the diversity of the faculty, improving professional development opportunities for contingent faculty, and promoting women's leadership at all levels. She is currently researching the interface between graduate student activism, sexual harassment and sexual misconduct, and the recent surge in graduate student unionization, as well as similar issues in the postdoc community. Of particular interest is the question of whether collective bargaining can provide graduate students and postdocs with more effective and efficient organizational responses to sexual harassment than are possible via internal policies and procedures alone.
