About this Session

Engineering touches every aspect of human life, and as a result, engineers have the power to help alleviate or exacerbate societal harms. On November 18-19, the NAE’s Cultural, Ethical, Social, and Environmental Responsibility in Engineering Program and the Committee on Human Rights of the NAS, NAE, and NAM will gather experts in the fields of human rights and engineering to discuss how engineers can promote the realization of human rights and how human rights can provide a valuable framework for addressing engineering challenges, including related to public health, equity, and privacy. On both afternoons, attendees are invited to participate in hands-on activity sessions designed to demonstrate the connections between human rights and engineering in practice.
