In 2004, The National Academies' Committee on Institutional and Policy-Level Strategies for Increasing the Diversity of the U.S. Health Care Workforce identified costs associated with health professional education (HPE) as a barrier to underrepresented students entering health professional training programs (NASEM, 2004). Two decades later, financial disparities are still considered obstacles to diversifying the health workforce. On April 23-24, a public workshop will be held to explore various global financial and educational models aimed at making HPE more accessible.
