A National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine planning committee will organize a public workshop to examine how health and human services structures influence mental health and substance use disorder (MHSUD) outcomes, particularly in communities with limited access to care.
The workshop will include presentations and discussions on:
The impact of structural factors such as healthcare and social service infrastructure, service accessibility, and the availability, quality, and effectiveness of MHSUD care and support services, including how social determinants of health can either facilitate or create barriers to care.
Strategies, such as telehealth, to enhance care coordination and service linkages, including housing support, economic assistance, and community-based interventions to improve treatment access and engagement.
Evidence-based approaches for integrating health and social services to improve prevention and treatment outcomes for MHSUD populations.
The role of policies and accountability measures in strengthening service delivery and reducing disparities in mental health and substance use care.
The planning committee will develop the workshop agenda, select and invite speakers, and moderate discussions. A designated rapporteur will prepare proceedings--in brief summarizing the presentations and discussions.
