Opportunities and Architectures for Grid-Connected Microgrids
Microgrids, self-contained electricity systems which can be isolated and/or connected with the larger electric grid, present a number of exciting opportunities for improving affordability, sustainability, and reliability/resilience outcomes for their users. Microgrids may be used in rural or islanded areas, but are also increasingly present in a variety of geographies across the electricity system. However, a number of technical and regulatory and legal challenges remain before their full potential can be reached. This conversation will highlight the current state of microgrid technologies and operational paradigms, with discussion on next steps to explore the full potential for microgrids in our electricity system.
