Engaging Patients to Advance Diagnostic Excellence: A Workshop

The National Academies Forum on Advancing Diagnostic Excellence will host a public hybrid workshop on March 2, 2026 to explore opportunities for engaging patients, caregivers, and families in the diagnostic process to improve patient safety and reduce diagnostic errors. Discussion topics may include: educating and empowering patients and families to actively participate in diagnosis; integrating shared decision-making; leveraging technology and diagnostic innovations to better understand symptoms and inform clinical decisions; training health professionals to strengthen communication and collaboration with patients; and assessing the impact of engagement on the diagnostic process and health outcomes.
