Many promising energy technologies never advance beyond the laboratory stage, not because they lack potential, but because the transition to a fundable, scalable solution is too risky for private investors to take on alone. Since its creation in 2009, the Advanced Research Projects Agency-Energy (ARPA-E) has played a unique and critical role within the Department of Energy, funding research across a wide spectrum of technologies. ARPA-E programs advance next-generation energy systems, strengthen the resilience of energy infrastructure, and improve energy efficiency across transportation, buildings, and industrial applications. The agency’s work provides a key link in many technologies’ path from research and development to commercialization.
Please join us for a public briefing on the National Academies’ report Evaluation of ARPA-E’s Mission and Goals on Thursday, August 20th at 2 pm ET. The report examines ARPA-E’s structure and operations, assesses the impacts of its programs to date, and recommends ways the agency can build on its early successes. During the briefing, members of the committee will discuss the report’s key findings and recommendations.
