Data collection itself is changing, with reduced response rates to surveys, the growing availability of alternative sources of data, the increasing power of AI, and new developments in statistical modeling. At the same time, federal statistical agencies have faced the challenges of often flat or declining budgets in real dollars along with reduced numbers of staff. Managing the workforce to have the right skills and tools for the future is vital.
