Economic Use Cases for Advanced Reactors
Many advanced reactor designs are progressing through development, with some moving toward demonstration. These technologies could support increasing electricity demand and offer additional value streams via provision of industrial process heat, district heating, water desalination, and dedicated energy for industrial and other large customers. Whether these potential applications can translate into economically sustainable deployment depends on many factors, including capital and financing costs, construction performance, customer needs, market structures, the value placed on reliability and other energy attributes, and the costs of competing technologies. This webinar will explore the conditions and use cases under which advanced reactors could be economically viable, including grid-connected generation, co-located industrial applications, and other integrated energy systems. Speakers will identify economic barriers that could impede the commercial deployment of advanced reactors, as well as potential solutions for addressing them.
