Artificial Intelligence, Proliferation Resistance, and Security by Design
As advanced reactors, new fuel types, and novel fuel cycle technologies move toward deployment, there is growing interest in incorporating safeguards, security, and nonproliferation considerations earlier in the technology design process. At the same time, advances in artificial intelligence may offer new tools for analyzing proliferation risks, informing safeguards approaches, monitoring nuclear materials and facilities, and evaluating design choices before technologies are deployed, for example, through digital twins. This webinar will explore how AI could support proliferation resistance and security by design, including opportunities to bring together reactor developers, regulators, safeguards experts, and the nuclear security community earlier in the innovation process. The discussion will also consider the limitations and risks of relying on AI in security-sensitive applications and how these tools might support responsible U.S. nuclear deployment and export.
