Confronting Sexual Assault at Sea in the U.S. Coast Guard: Public Briefing

In the U.S. Coast Guard, mission readiness depends on the safety, health, and trust of every crew member. Because personnel often serve aboard vessels in remote, at-sea locations where access to care, support, and resources is limited, sexual assault can have immediate and lasting consequences for survivors, their teams, and the entire organization. Preventing and responding to sexual assault is therefore essential, not only for individual safety and wellbeing, but also to the Coast Guard’s ability to carry out its mission.

Join us on Thursday, November 5 at 2:00 PM ET for a public briefing on our new report, Confronting Sexual Assault at Sea in the U.S. Coast Guard. This congressionally mandated report examines challenges and prospective solutions associated with sexual assault aboard Coast Guard vessels and evaluates the operational capabilities of the agency in providing survivors of sexual assault immediate access to care. During the briefing, members of the committee will discuss how the Coast Guard can prioritize care and wellbeing, strengthen accountability, improve data collection and reporting, and promote a climate of safety and respect.
