A session on Dynamic Interplay of Policy, Curriculum, and Practice in Korean Mathematics Education will be given by Kyungwon Lee, a PhD candidate at Seoul National University.

Abstract:

This webinar aims to provide insights into classroom practices related to computational thinking, data science, and AI in the U.S. mathematics education context, drawing on the Korean case. In Korea, the national curriculum is periodically revised, and recent issues such as computational thinking, data science, and AI have been introduced at the policy level, leading to active changes in school-level practices. The webinar examines how these themes are reflected in Korean mathematics education through the lens of the interplay among policy, curriculum, and practice, and presents cases of technological tools and professional development programs that support this interplay. In addition to sharing the Korean case, the webinar includes short hands-on activities and discussions. This webinar will offer participants an opportunity to reflect on and integrate data science, computational thinking, and AI into their own mathematics teaching practices.
